Thoughts on the Wall

Hi, my name is Jeff Hixson and I love photography, it hasn't been a career per se but it has been a lifelong passion. As you'll see while exploring Thoughts on the Wall, I enjoy shooting many different styles:

Botanicals

Close-up photography

Landscapes and Cityscapes

Wildlife photography

Black and White

Sunrises and Sunsets

Documentary and even some Street photography

I've spent a lifetime taking photos and for the last three and half years I've traveled the United States in my self-built, home-on-wheels taking photos pretty much everywhere I've been. I’ll be posting travel notes now and then so you can go on this journey with me, see what caught my eye, things I found in places I didn’t expect… stay tuned!

As you'll see, I have a particular passion for close-ups, not really "macro photography" but I do get in tight to capture patterns, textures and beautiful, rich colors. Sunrises and sunsets are also a favorite, having grown up in Arizona, I saw some amazing dusks and dawns and would have captured them had I had a camera at the time. Now I don't go to many places without a camera, now I am taking the time and sharing them with you.

I’m not real big on editing, I try to be in the moment and leave things as they were at the time I shot them. All the elements you see in my photos were there as I captured them. The beautiful skies, the clouds, the moon, planes, people, the colors and the light. Just a touch of exposure control or upping the resolution a bit so they’ll print well.

I have partnered with "Order a Print”, a high quality printing and fulfillment house, in order to share my passion for photography with you. I've selected a few premium printing, framing and hanging options to provide you with wall decor for your living rooms and hallways, offices, conference rooms, or wherever you feel a colorful, meaningful or dramatic image will add life to a space (click this link to see the options I've selected). Many lend themselves to groupings, diptychs and triptychs so if you're an interior designer, decorator or corporate space planner, they'll work in larger settings. Some of them are featured in the "serving suggestions" slide shows at the top of each Explore page.

A word about quality, precision and focus…

I look for subject matter: people, flowers, sunsets, creatures great and small, trees, skies, and sometimes interesting moments that tell a story. Quality is a big word and can mean different things to different people. I’m interested in the quality of light, color, texture, mood, emotion and the quality of the moment. You won’t always find precision in my photos, that isn’t the purpose of my work. I want to take pictures that are evocative, emotional and hopefully ones that are involving and moving. Photographs that make you question or think or laugh or wonder, what’s next... Where does this story go? How does this end? Who makes the next move? Where will this path take me?

Some of these images come from my own back yard, some from the road, others are from important moments in my life but all are from the heart. Maybe they’ll evoke a memory or moment for you, one that touched you and meant something. I hope my images will do that, bring something emotional and meaningful, a particular photograph that makes you wonder or laugh or tear up a little, as long as it moves or inspires you! That's what it did for me, that’s why I took the shot, it’s why I’m sharing these moments in time with you.

Always,

Jeff
